CSSC Education Sector
Introduction 
The structure of the Formal Education and Training System in Tanzania constitutes pre-primary education (2 years), primary education (7 years), Junior Secondary (4 years), Senior Secondary (2 years) and up to 3 or more years of Tertiary Education.
Besides Government schools, 220 secondary schools, 65 primary schools, more than 154 vocational training centres and 3 universities are operated by churches and provide much needed services, especially in rural areas. All church run education facilities follow the Tanzanian curricula.

Objectives
At CSSC the education department consists of (a) the Technical Support Services, and (b) the Policy Advocacy and Research. Both follow three clearly defined strategies:
1. Capacity building:
• Improve management skills in church run education institutions
2. Lobbying and Advocacy:
• Strengthen  delivery of quality education by church run schools
• Build positive attitude of students towards mathematics, science and English
3. Networking and Partnerships
• Strengthen networking among church education institutions
• Initiate and maintain communication with other stakeholders
• Establish Public Private Partnerships (PPP) among education institutions

Activities
Activities in support of the before mentioned include:
• Conducting management trainings to further qualify CSSC member institutions offering education services
• Facilitating teacher’s trainings on teaching methods and cross cutting issues such as HIV/AIDS
• Sensitize public and private sources on topics related to improving the quality of education facilities
• Lobby at national and district level for shared tasks, responsibilities and funds between Government and church run education institutions
• Collect data in support of church run education service provision and share with public and private sources
• Support transparency and exchange of lessons learnt in the education sector
• Participate in task force and zonal policy meetings to ensure the view of church run facilities is taken care of and reflected in related policies.
