CSSC HEALTH SECTOR

INTRODUCTION

Health department of the core function of CSSC Head office. The department coordinates all health services in the country which runs under TEC and CCT an organ formed by these two bodies.

According to the available stasticts in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, up to June 2008, the Church contributes about 40% of all helath services rendered to Tanzanian population, these ranges from Dispensaries/Village Heal;th posts/Clinics to University teaching hospitals.

Policy Advocacy and Research

CSSC secretarieat represents the churches in various forums and policy formulating committees at the National level. CSSC has developed advocacy mechanisms for lobbying with the government and other stakeholders in health on behalf of its members (TEC & CCT) and other FBOs running health services in the country. Advocacy issues are identified through the Zonal Policy Forum (ZPF) meetings where church leaders deliberate on policy issues pertaining to delivery of health and other social services

In cooperation with other research firms in the country CSSC assists in identifying relevant areas for operational research on health programs. It Promotes and facilitates operational researches. From the researches, guidelines and statements of best practices are developed and disseminated.

Through its Lead Agency concept, CSSC promotes partnership between FBOs and the government in planning, allocations of resources and implementation of activities at the district/council level.

CSSC coordinates Public Private Partnership (PPP) activities in the regions through organizing regional PPP meetings. In these meetings, public and private bodies are brought together and discuss various issues pertaining health services in their region. In areas where these meeting were conducted, they have shown good prospects.

Technical Support Services
CSSC supports church health facilities in building their capacity so that they can render quality health services to the population served; this kind of support is provided through in house training, seminars and workshops

The commission also has a well established scholarship fund which supports staff training in various health institutions within and sometimes outsides the country, this fund is available through donor support from our benefactors outside the country like DANIDA, CORDAID, EED and others, CSSC is very grateful for this kind of support.
