INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT)
In 1999 CSSC undergone different steps in building new transition of applying the new world of Technology, an initial step was few email account and partial system to support up to the current level of high technology where people can communicate instantly through computers.
ICT is a vital requirement for any meaningful socio-economic and cultural development to any society. Much as this is a basic requirement still access to ICT is extremely low. According to the 2002 World Bank study out of approximately 816 Million people in Africa only 0.7% (5.9 Million) has computers and 0.6% (5Million) uses the Internet. It should be noted that due to societal and cultural linkages, there is a tendency of people sharing communication facilities, such as radio and now computers and Internet facilities through community multipurpose.
CSSC Five Year Strategic Plan has recognized the importance of ICT in its development process as well as to effectively perform its function especially the core function of Advocacy and Lobbying. In this respect development of a comprehensive Information and Communication Technology is one of the critical activities that have been planned for implementation on urgent basis within the framework of CSSC strategic plan (2006-2010).
CSSC ICT unit is facilitating the following:
• Computer applications training to CSSC Head Office staff
• Procurement of ICT equipment to CSSC workstations
• Development of CSSC Website
• Redesigning of CSSC website
• Development of CSSC Intranet
• Enhancement of CSSC IT Systems
• Development of Local Area Network Infrastructure
• Establishment of AfyaMtandao in collaboration with other stakeholders for health network
• Health mapping exercise
• Development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
• GIS training to Zonal Secretaries and Zonal Coordinators
• ICT Need Assessment to all five zones(South, East, Lake,West and North)
• Development of Exact Financial Package Software
• Development of Media Production
• Development of AfyaMtandao portal for health
• Enhancement of Collaboration between CSSC and MoHSW
• ICT Hardware and Software maintenance
• Install and Support iHRIS manager system at CSSC HQ and all five zones supported by Capacity Project(USAID)
