Launching of Global Fund Round 10

LAUNCHING OF GLOBAL FUND ROUND 10 PROPOSAL

The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Board will launch its next round of grants this month; the Global Fund Round 10 will be launched in 20th May 2010 and the closing date will be end of August 2010.

This new Global Fund round will focus on concentrated HIV epidemics and interventions among vulnerable populations (example injection drug users, prison inmates, mobile populations, sex workers, men who have sex with men (MSM) and other key marginalized populations. Setting aside resources for the most vulnerable people will ensure that communities can rapidly scale up their AIDS response. In addition this new grant will also provide an opportunity for countries to request funds for technical assistance for capacity building in areas such as financial management, M & E etc.

At the country level information is NOW shared to all stakeholders. The Tanzania National Coordinating Mechanism (TNCM) plans to submit a country coordinated proposal for the Global Fund Round 10. The main focus of the proposal is yet to be decided. Review of implementation gaps of the ongoing initiatives in response to the three major diseases (AIDS, TB and malaria) and preliminary consultations with the national programs for AIDS, TB and Malaria and other stakeholders has begun.

Selection of theme/focus areas in every disease component is a process which ends up with TNCM approval. The process starts by programmes submitting their programmatic gap as per disease strategic framework or programmatic gap analysis consultancy and also stakeholders providing information/inputs concerning implementation gaps as per the three disease components.

The TNCM secretariat will facilitate consultation meetings with Technical Working Groups of the three major diseases and establish a roadmap for the development of the country coordinated proposal for the Global Fund Round 10. Further, the TNCM secretariat will soon provide additional information and guidance on the procedures and involvement of the various stakeholders in the proposal preparations and submission.

All stakeholders are encouraged to prepare and also contribute their inputs and provide suggestions for priority areas and themes to be included in the Global Fund Round 10 proposal.
