Northern Zone Information

The Northern Zone is in the North Eastern side of the country. It is composed of the administrative regions of Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Manyara. The regions are further subdivided into 19 administrative districts. The Zone shares frontiers with the Lake Zone in the North West, Republic of Kenya in the East and North East, Eastern Zone in the South and South East while the Western Zone is in the South Western side as shown by the sketch map hereunder.

The Northern Zone covers an area of 95, 615 sq kms and the population is estimated to be close to 5 million people in 2008.
Christian churches under the umbrella of CSSC are operating in 10 dioceses.
The Zone has 78 Church run Secondary schools out of which 70 are secular secondary schools while 8 are seminaries. There are also 3 church run colleges and 44 Vocation Training Centres (VTCs). Churches run 18 hospitals, 12 Health Centres and 111 Dispensaries.

The Zonal Policy Forum (ZPF) that is composed of the church leaders and other technical personnel of the zone, spearheads the management of CSSC activities in the zone. The main function of ZPF is to ensure effective engagement in policy formulation and advocacy pertaining to the improvement in the provision of education and health services in the Zone.

The envisaged outcomes of the ZPF are: enhanced ecumenism, improved coordination of church education and health services in the zone for effective resources use, creation of a mechanism for conflict resolution and improved communication among the church owners of health and education facilities.
